The Synopsis--Holding my breath until the 15th!

Well, I just hit the send button and the synopsis of my latest book is flying through cyberspace towards the generous founder of YAFiction.com in hopes of a chance at representation. Yep! YAFiction.com is having a contest for its members wherein the winning synopsis gets to submit the synopsis and first chapter to Maya Rock at Writer's House for consideration and/or critique. I've been revising the ms and the synopsis all day, trying to carve out that writer's time I've been worrying about. I can't believe it's already after 4:00 in the afternoon. I'm only halfway through chapter 12! But I got the contest piece out there, so wish me luck!

Now to forge ahead with the rest of the story... (thank you Paul Harvey, wherever you are!)

  1. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Mary Ann! I do hope you win. Writing a great synopsis is a daunting task. Even if you don't win, at least you've made yourself sit down and write one. I sincerely hope this pans out for you.

  3. Good luck. I tried to become a member so I could enter the contest and they rejected me - oh well - guess it wasn't meant to be for me - but I have other things in the works - fingers crossed for you and hope you win - E :)

  4. Thanks everyone! We should know by the 15th, so it's not too long a wait. Elysabeth, I'm sorry you're not a member yet. The synopsis I sent in is for the ms I used to apply for membership, so here's hoping...!

  5. The 15th is Sunday - will you hear something then or will it be later? The deadline is the 15th or that's the actual notification date? I don't remember but I was hoping to become a member but guess they didn't like my simplistic writing style. Fingers crossed for everyone awaiting to hear anything on contests/submissions of any kind. - E :)

  6. elysabeth, the deadline is tomorrow, July 10th, but Alison said she would have the results by the 15th. I don't know how many entries she will get, but the synopsis is pretty short, so it shouldn't take too long to go through them. Right now I think their are around 20 or 25 members. (but don't feel bad...I heard a lot of people were turned away for membership. One gentleman wrote a very nasty email in response).

  7. I started writing a synopsis in the spring. I gave up after about a day and decided to procrastinate a few more seasons.

    Good Luck, Mary Ann!!

  8. Good luck Mary Ann! It is weird when you hit that send button isn't it? All of a sudden what you've been working on becomes so real.

  9. Ah thank you for explaining that then Mary Ann. Which means even if they get a fraction of members entering, then yep shouldn't take long to read them - Waiting for you to hear the results -

(I did reply but I hope it wasn't a nasty email - just kind of unsure what they are looking for since what I had submitted placed third on one contest and then they asked for another story to be submitted and I sent that and then almost immediately - within hours of sending it - I received my rejection email - I felt kind of like well - you asked for a second story and I gave that to you and then nothing - but oh well - wasn't meant to be - life goes on - lol - E :) )
